Same as with most people in logistics, I have always taken the carbon footprint from our use of fossil fuels as a given, until we were introduced to BOOSTplus by Selcoms.
We started tests and trials of BOOSTplus in 2020 with Selcoms and they demonstrated an average improvement in fuel economy with a corresponding reduction in the intensity of our carbon emissions by 16% across our fleet. They helped us to present our strategic environmental initiative, and consequent emission reduction from BOOSTplus for our tenders to clients. They have continued to support us with regular reviews over the period to ensure our carbon reduction initiatives stayed on track as we continued to add more vehicles to the fleet, and as we expanded the initiative to our local distribution services as well.
In the 1st year of implementing BOOSTplus in our fleet from end of 2020 to end of 2021, we maintained our average 16% improvement in fuel economy, reducing our fuel consumption in this section of the fleet by 220600 litres of diesel and reducing the intensity of our carbon emission by 5,212 tonnes of carbon. These savings have been recognized by our clients and we have since expanded some of our contracts as a result.
BOOSTplus will remain a valuable part of our strategic environmental plan to continue to minimize our carbon footprint in all our fossilfuel applications and I can personally highly recommend it to anyone wishing to reduce their fuel expenses and improve their environmental credentials with clients."
